PARANÁ PRESS AND REPRESENTATIONS OF WOMEN IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY (1965/1966)

INTRODUCTION: This research addresses representations of women in the Jornal Diário da Tarde newspaper, which circulated in the state of Paraná, in Curitiba, from 1899 to 1983. It covers the second half of the 20th century, specifically the years 1965 and 1966, understanding these representations as part of educational processes. AIMS: to analyze how women are represented in the Paraná press in the second half of the 20th century, in order to learn about typifications of representations in terms of changes or continuities in relation to the beginning of the 20th century; b). Specific objectives: a). Literature review with a view to furthering the research; b). Analyze news articles obtained from the Jornal Diário da Tarde newspaper through content about women, to learn about representations constructed about them in the second half of the 20th century in Paraná, in the years 1965 and 1966. MATERIALS AND METHODS: historical research with a qualitative approach, situated in the field of History of Education. The study involved a literature review and collection of newspaper articles on the subject from the Brazilian digital newspaper archive website. RESULTS: the results indicate different educational typifications of representations of women from Paraná and Brazil. From the 656 editions of the newspaper researched, 1,060 articles were selected and organized into categories such as: education, social life, beauty, advertisements about beauty and culture, violence, professional life, and health. The report analyzes the categories of education and culture, social life, and beauty. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The different types of representations of women based on the analysis of these three categories refer to different ways of understanding women, with an emphasis on their strong presence in the educational universe, whether through teaching or entering higher education. Social life is valued for women of privileged social status, with beauty being highlighted for these women in social columns and in advertisements for beauty products. It should be noted that the newspaper, as an important means of communication, carries out, conveys, and disseminates ways of educating, using the content of the articles it publishes, especially from a male perspective.
